I brought in a Seiko diver that I swim with most weekends. I had been meaning to get the seals checked for a couple of years and kept putting it off. The water resistance service took three days and I received a written report with the actual tested pressure — not just "it's fine." That was what I was after. The price was stated before I left the watch, which I appreciated.

My father passed away last year and left me his watch. I had no idea what it was or what condition it was in — whether it was worth wearing or just storing. The estate assessment gave me a clear picture. They photographed everything and the written summary explained what the movement showed and what previous service had been done. It took four days. I did find the process a bit slow to start, but the result was thorough and completely honest.

The second pusher on my chronograph had started to feel different — slightly sticky on the first press. I had tried two other workshops before this one. Both told me the watch was "fine" without opening the module. Pivotal Hour disassembled the mechanism, found a worn lever, quoted me for the part before ordering it, and reassembled with noticeably better pusher feel. The timing trace they attached was a detail I had not expected but I was glad to have it.

I contacted them about a watch I had bought second-hand. I was not sure if it had ever been serviced or if some parts had been replaced. The assessment took three days and the report answered every question I had — and a few I had not thought to ask. I will bring it back for a full service in a year or two based on what they recommended.

Good workshop. The chronograph service cost more than I had initially budgeted for — one worn component added to the total — but they contacted me before ordering the part and I had the choice to proceed or not. I did proceed, and the result is that the pusher action is now as it should be. The written report is something I did not expect to value as much as I do. Straightforward to deal with throughout.

My husband and I both wear watches in the sea when we visit Koh Samui. I had both assessed for water resistance and brought one in for the service. The technician explained clearly what the process involved and what the tested rating would mean in practical terms — how deep, what activities, how often to re-test. That level of explanation made the service feel worthwhile beyond just the certificate.

Three Bench Stories
These are documented examples of work carried out at the workshop, describing the situation, what was done, and the outcome.
Case 01 — Water Resistance Service
A diver's watch worn in the sea for three years without a seal check
Challenge
The owner had been swimming in the ocean with a watch rated to 200m for three seasons. No seal check had been performed since purchase. After reading about gasket ageing, he wanted to know the actual current state of the seals before the next trip.
What Was Done
The case was opened. The crown gasket showed visible compression and surface cracking. The case-back gasket was intact but at the lower end of acceptable hardness. Both were replaced with specification parts. Dry-air and wet pressure tests were run to 20 bar.
Outcome
Watch passed wet pressure test to rated depth. Owner received written report with test parameters and results. Completed in two working days. Owner noted he would now set a reminder to re-test every two years rather than waiting until something failed.
Case 02 — Estate Assessment
An inherited pocket watch movement in a later case
Challenge
A client inherited a pocket watch from her grandfather. The family had always been told it was "valuable" but no documentation existed. She wanted to understand whether the case and movement were original to each other before deciding whether to restore it.
What Was Done
Movement and case were photographed under magnification. The movement serial number was documented. Inspection revealed the movement was from a different period than the case — a not uncommon occurrence with inherited pocket watches. The dial appeared original to the movement.
Outcome
Client received a written summary with photographs and a clear explanation of the case/movement mismatch. This informed her decision to have the movement serviced and kept separately rather than investing in restoring the case. The assessment gave her the information she needed to make that choice confidently.
Case 03 — Chronograph Service
A vintage column-wheel chronograph with a misaligned reset
Challenge
Owner had purchased a vintage Swiss chronograph at auction. The start/stop pusher worked normally but the reset pusher required two presses to zero the seconds hand. He had been told by another workshop that the movement "probably just needed adjustment".
What Was Done
The chronograph module was disassembled. A worn return spring on the reset cam was identified as the primary cause. The technician also found that the column wheel had been incorrectly repositioned in a previous service — a secondary issue that contributed to the erratic feel. Both were addressed. Parts quoted and agreed before ordering.
Outcome
Reset now functions correctly on single press. Timing trace showed the base movement running within acceptable range. Completed in ten working days including parts wait. Owner noted the chronograph had "never felt this good" — a reasonable response given the previous incorrect service had compounded the original fault.
